day 285: Holga Workshop

subject: Teresa
why? Recently I took a Holga film workshop hosted by Tracy Tesmer of http://sheshootsfilm.com/
I was supposed to focus on telling a story. It was probably really hard for me to take a photo and not be able to look at the back of the camera and see if it turned out. The other thing was it brought me back to my roots: film. My first camera and how I learned was with an Olympus OM-10 and it was all manual for me.  For the session we had a model named Teresa. Here is her website: http://smokinghotcigarchick.com/  I took pictures with the Holga camera and for the whole session indoors, I forgot and left the lens cap on the camera. I got nothing from that roll. That is the bad thing about a holga camera. And if you have to manually advance your film, so if you forget to advance....
you will double expose your image. Which could be kind of cool.

The before: the holga camera in case you dont know what one of these looks like.
The After: below are the images produced by the holga

the holga 120 film... actually really fun, just take the lens cap off and throw it away....

Holga image

This is what happens when you half advance the roll of film to double expose. It makes me laugh because it looks like she is yelling out to herself.

here is my other double exposed image but this one was a mistake. I forgot to advance the film after the shot.

All in all, it was kind of fun, but I cannot stand the week or two it took to get the film developed and then scanned in. I really did want to look at them right away. There is quite a bit of user error on my part but it was cool to play with and it makes you want to be more purposeful with each photo you take.  You better hope you capture what you need to in the 12 shots you have. I also don't know about paying for film developing. Tomorrow I will share with you the photos I took with my digital camera.
