subject: business card
why? It is a long one...
Lately I have felt like I have been in a creative funk. My sweet husband is so thoughtful and sent me a video to watch. In the video, the speaker Elizabeth Gilbert, author of eat, pray, love discusses how creative genius has issues these days because so many people attribute the genius to the person themselves. Which means creative people are constantly left to strive to out do themselves and top themselves from their previous creative work. She also explains how the ancient Greeks never attributed genius to the person themselves: rather than saying "you are a genius" which is what people say now, the Greeks would say "you have a genius".
I thought this was cool because through the years I have learned none of my creativity stems from me or anything I can do. However, it is a blessing from God, a gift to me to be used on load and at His disposal. He is the ultimate creator of all things and all he created is good. Soooo I consider if I create anything it is for his Glory because he is channeling his creativity through me. At least I like to consider any creative genius I may have comes from Him.
At the end of the video Elizabeth Gilbert says you just need to show up. And if you just show up --- maybe a creative genius will look favorably upon you. This lead me to start this blog of just showing up in 2010 and allow God to do the rest. I am trying to focus on this- just showing up- in everything... because the funk moves me to not move or act. So if I can at least show up and be ready and willing, God will use me.
This back story leads me to my project for tonight. It was a simple project, just create a business card incorporating a logo provided. I want to share with you the before, which I consider the first concept. I call this a BEFORE because the first concept would be fine. It would do the trick and fill the need for Kelley. Obviously a few adjustments after she saw it and it would be good to print, maybe 50-100 business cards. However, the other 5 concepts I consider the AFTER. They came AFTER I showed up to work on Kelley's project.
Now I am not saying- oh look I am a creative genius. What I am saying is, praise God! I just showed up to help Kelley out and He not only helped me out of my funk of just one idea but provided many ideas. I could have kept going. But I had to stop somewhere. Design rules usually suggest, never show your client more than 3 options. Any more is just too many.
Please accept my non-photos for 365 Before and After. But I feel it is an important break through. Oh and if you have a favorite- let me know.

Well I think there are too many options for me. At first I only saw the first 2 cards and really the after was more appealing. Then I saw the rest and just became completely overwhelmed with all the choices.
ReplyDeleteBUT I like #1 and #4 both from the after column. Do you ever sleep???
I love the second and fifth ones! You've been gifted in this area.
