day 10: Maddy

day 10: a flash attachment
subject: My little neighbor Madison
why? Have you ever watched CSI? I love that show, at least the Vegas version. Sometimes during a crime scene investigation they will take photos to document the scene. And sometimes when they take these photos they have a round flash around the lens. It looks like a really cool flash. I found out they were pretty pricey. Then I watched some youTube video in which a photographer compared the $1000 flash used in fashion photography versus the cheap flash attachment. They got similar results. I am a sucker and bought the cheap flash attachment. Just to see...

Yesterday my neighbor came over to join Cash and I for breakfast. She brought her precious little 1 year old Maddy. She is so cute with those big eyes and little button nose. I decided to try out my flash attachment on her.

Before is a photo with just a regular flash bounced off the ceiling, and after is with the new flash attachment. The most apparent difference is the reflection in her eyes. And with the flash attachment the light is concentrated on her face while the background is darker with a nice vignette. However, bouncing the light off of the ceiling in the first image illuminated the background as well as her face. I think I like the before picture better. But it could be I just like that photo better. She was definitely a mover.

I am not sure what I think of the flash attachment. Except I will definitely need to play with it some more and experiment on different subjects. This will definitely not be the last post you see with the flash attachment - before and after.

  1. I like the first one better too until I read your smart stuff about dark background and focus on her face and the vignetting. Then I get all confused and well....

  2. Yeah- It sounds smart- doesn't it? But I still like the other one. I think it has a better composition. That is what makes it and her expression.
